16 Questions, $1,600 Prize

“Proving you were right has never been so easy.”

Every summer, producers and agribusiness wait for private forecasts to release estimates ahead of the USDA’s monthly WASDE. Those estimates, combined with social media noise, are often all over the board, and yet the USDA still seems to frequently “surprise” the markets. How can individuals and teams turn endless streams of information and data into insights for their farms and business?

How will it work?

Beginning April 27th, four questions will be posted to the Ag Forecast Network:

  1. …probability of the May WASDE estimating the 2023 U.S. corn yields above 181.5 bushels per acre?
  2. …probability of the May WASDE estimating the 2023 U.S. soybean yields above 52.0 bushels per acre?
  3. … probability of the November WASDE estimating the 2023 U.S. corn yields above 181.5 bushels per acre?
  4. …probability of the November WASDE estimating the 2023 U.S. soybean yields above 52.0 bushels per acre?

After the May WASDE report, the two resolved questions will be scored and replaced by two questions about the June WASDE yield estimates. This will continue for each WASDE report through November. Two crops, seven WASDE reports, sixteen questions.

How do I win?

Each question will generate points based on how well your forecasts stacked up and your participation. In August, we’ll announce the user that accumulated the most points from May through August. For the second round, the user with the most points accumulated from September through November will also be annouced.

Finally, the winner with the most points across all sixteen questions will win the grand prize: $1,600. You can read more about the sixteen questions and contest details on the FAQs page.
